Midwest Rehab at OCI FAQs

Is there a way to rate my pain before contacting a physical therapist?

Doctors and physical therapists generally rate pain on a scale of 1 to 10. You can download this chart to fill out and bring in for your first appointment.

What is physical therapy?

Physical therapy is a non-surgical treatment to improve range of motion and strength and alleviate pain. Your individual program may include exercises, kinetic and conditioning machines, or hydrotherapy in our state-of-the-art pool with integrated treadmill.

What conditions are treated at Midwest Rehab at OCI?

The most common issues we treat include:

  • Back/neck conditions
  • Muscle strains/ligamentous sprains
  • Post-surgical conditions
  • Degenerative conditions
  • Fractures/dislocations
  • Repetitive/overuse injuries
  • Neurological conditions.

How many visits will I need to make to the physical therapist?

The number and frequency of your visits will depend on your condition and personal progress. It can also depend on how well you do with your home exercise program, if you are given one. Our physical therapists will work to return you as safely and quickly as possible to your pre-injury condition. Unfortunately, your insurance coverage may also influence your number of visits.

Can physical therapy reduce my risk of falling?

If you are elderly or suffer from a physical disability, you have a greater risk of falling. Strengthening and balance exercises can reduce your risk of falling. Additionally, we can work with you to suggest improvements to your home environment that will reduce your risks; and we can also teach you how to improve your ability to react to near falls.

What is work hardening?

Work hardening involves real or simulated work activities, such as using construction tools, climbing scaffolding, handling materials on a loading dock, working a factory line or operating heavy equipment.
